Welcome to The Slow Boat newsletter, a space where I share my thoughts on creativity, nature, and the art of slowing down.
I'm Ed Harrison, a designer, illustrator and environmental activist.
Over the past 10 years, I've worked with charitable organisations such as WWF, Soil Association, RSPB, and Sea Shepherd to address some of today's most pressing environmental issues.
I use The Slow Boat to reflect on my inner and outer journey as I navigate life guided by my inner compass.
Subscribers to my Substack will receive the latest news about the creative projects and campaigns I've been working on.
I’ll also share my thoughts about nature and updates from the veg patch - my favourite place to slow down and connect with the land. Occasionally, I’ll write about mindfulness and my Buddhist practice. Most importantly, all of my writing will be grounded in an intention to invite readers to step out of the rush of daily life and slow down with me (more on this below). I look forward to connecting with you through this new Substack adventure.
What is The Slow Boat?
Social media is a great way to stay connected, but it can feel a bit relentless. An endless battle for ‘likes’ amidst a sea of scrollable content.
I wanted to find a way to keep people up to date outside of the ‘scrolling space’.
The result is The Slow Boat newsletter.
It’s a slower process, but there is much less noise.
Much like choosing to travel with a pair of wooden oars over a petrol-powered motor.
This is the way of The Slow Boat. I look forward to having you on board.
A little bit about me.
I love the ocean. I love birds, especially swallows. I love insects, particularly moths. As a practitioner of Zen Buddhism, I find peace and mindfulness in my daily activities. After my father passed away, I began tending to the vegetable patch where he once grew his crops. This has been a healing way for me to connect with my dad and learn the art of growing vegetables.
When I’m not working on creative projects the studio, you can find me surfing on the Gower or tending to the veg patch—my favorite places to slow down and connect with the land and sea.
